There are three Linux softwares, the most widely known is EMC:
http://www.linuxcnc.org/
http://www.isd.mel.nist.gov/projects/rcslib/index.html
and http://sourceforge.net/projects/emc

Less well known are Phil Cobbin's Linux 4 axis CNCMILL :
http://www.cobbin.com/sierra.htm

and Mark Whitis Linux Stepper Motor Device Driver:
http://www.freelabs.com/~whitis/software/stepper/

However, if you are just starting, I'd recommend a
DOS or WINDOZE program instead:

- TurboCNC (DOS) http://www.dakeng.com/turbocnc.html
- Master5/Mach1 (DOZE) http://users.andara.com/~fenerty/master.htm
- Kellyware KCAM (DOZE) http://kellyware.com/kcam/

There are others, but these have a freely downloadable trial.
