This is an interesting problem! What are the typical ID's you bore?
I'm guessing they would be in the 5mm to maybe 8mm range? How
deep into the flute do you bore the steps? (Yes, I know a hole goes
right thru the flute but do the steps? Stiffness/rigidity of a long
boring/reaming tool could be a problem. Also, a single point cutting
tool will likely not give you the smooth wall thickness you probably
require.

Just a thought, but rather than using CNC to custom bore directly,
what about if you design a CNC setup to custom machine your
reamer? This way you could make a design change in CAD,
generate a new tool path in CAM and machine away... I'm guessing
you will need two linear axes X & Z and one rotary axis parallel to X in
order to create a longitudinal cutting edge similar to a reamer.
Rigidity of a long thin rod will be the biggest problem...

What do others suggest? Maybe someone with rifle barrel boring
experience has the answer!

Cheers, Peter
