A machine I worked on had a 50hz oscillation. This would heat the (Hall
effect) motor so fast that the belt would blister in two seconds. Our
solution was tighten the belt really tight to load the motor. Software's
solution was to put a 50hz filter in the DSP. Since it was osciallating
at 50hz, and they added a 50hz filter, the DSP couldn't see that the
motor was osciallating.
We ran it with a tight belt until the machine was retired.
