Lee,
My suggestion is to buy some of the reinforced neoprene from McMaster and
put back on the original factory style reinforced sheet neoprene style
covers. They work great to protect the ways.
If you think that the chips will be limited to an area a pan will catch you
are joking yourself. When I am cutting metal I get chips flying 10 feet in
all directions and the only thing stopping it then is the walls it hits. A
series II removes a serious amount of material and flings it a long way if
you are using a larger cutter.

Thanks Jon,
Thats a good thing to know. My seriesII is stripped of the old
way covers, and I'd like to make a "bib" or similar to keep chips
off the ways and steppers. Then maybe fabricate a pan underneath to
catch the runoff. My goal is minimal cleanup so I can run out there
make stuff and cleanup fast.
Also was thinking about a 'hardened' shop vacuum system that could
handle and seperate out coolant and chips. I think it would fail for
flood coolant use.
I'll post a picture of the seriesII. The hardest part is that the
table can travel back almost up to the Z axis way if needed.
Ideas from the masters of machining?:-)?????
