We have had this discussion before on this list, so you might want to
check the archive. I will try to explain it the way I see, but it is
not a black and white issue.
2-D, you have it correct. Basically no control of the Z-axis, but
maybe an on/off type of thing.
2.5-D: This is the ability to adjust the Z-axis to any height that you
would like, but not while moving the X and Y axes at the same time.
3-D: Full ability to move all 3 axes in a concerted manner.
