I have been experimenting with different methods for obtaining colors in
different metals with marginal success. Does anyone here on this list know
hot to turn brass into a satin black finish? without the use of paints. I am
also interested in anodizing at home methods.

It sounds like what you want to do is patination -applying chemicals that
oxidize the metal. Andrew Werby, who has been on the list in the past would
be the one to ask. I don't know if there is a method for producing a satin
black finish on brass, but if there is I would count on Andrew Werby to
know.
