Well gee wiz, Troll! It ain't that bad! Art Eckstein has a pulley driven
rotary encoder system that works rather well. The trick is to have the wire
recirculating instead of wrapping up around the pulley. I'm told that
stainless feeler gage strip can also be used in place of the wire. Try the
