Laser cutting pvc

I have come upon an opportunity to build a device for slitting glue backed
pvc labels (at least I think its pvc, will know more tomorrow). This is
currently being done with a knife. The adhesive causes problems with the
cut.

Has anyone done much vinyl cutting with a laser? I'm curious as to what the
adhesive does when cuts are made very close together. We aren't making the
labels - just trying to take them off a metal surface. I am hoping to slit
them into fine enough strips that we can remove them with a wire wheel or
something similar.
