Colin,
I doubt you can do this on a router. Assuming your material
is "garden variety" 304 SS at .080" to .120" thickness that stuff is
going to be nasty to machine. The thinner material like this is
usually very work hardened from the rolling process at the steel mill.
Your rpm should be in the 500 or less range for a high speed steel
cutter. Faster for solid carbide. Flood coolant would be best. A
corncob rougher would be my choice.
Unless you have a very rigid setup combined with heavy duty spindle,
you'll burn your cutters up faster than you can replace them. Even
the slightest amount of cutter rubbing where it doesn't bite into the
material caused by "slop" anywhere in the system and the cutter will
be toast.
