There is a slightly more generalized use which is to show what the motion
commanded by a g-code file looks like before it is run. Last time I
checked, there were quite a few of these available from the web.

The EMC backplotter will only work with the EMC because it uses the
"real" interpreter and "pretend" motion from the motion controller.

At NAMES last year, Fred Smith demonstrated a backplot with one of his
programs. It was of a g-code file made by Matt Shaver's bmp2cnc of a
still that Steve Stallings took with his digicam. I was impressed.
