I run an electronic resolution of .000313" and hit rapids of 275ipm using a .5" (2 turns per inch) lead screw driven 1:1 via belt drive with 450oz motors that are being 1/8th stepped. For every
actual "notch" on a 200 step motor, this breaks down to .0025", if my late night math is any good.
I am going to go out on a limb and point out that a .0025" mis-match somewhere in wood doesn't require too much sanding to eliminate it. But, it does depend on the type of wood and exactly what your
goal is. I spent a few years perfecting absolute "mirror" finishes for Cherry and Rosewood that required things to be pretty straight to start with, if we wanted to conserve on expensive materials
and excessive sanding. One will not have much sanding at the above "resolutions" provided the machine is very rigid and your "code" is clean.
Most Wood Crafts would probably not suffer from tooling lines that would be hard to get rid of from any machine that runs under .005".......
