Hi, well my experience says few woods can be machined to a good finnish. a
few will machine like plastic. The only machine work on wood that i have
seen where they put finnish directly on the part they used scraper type
finnishing tools. The big part of the problem is going from with grain to
against grain, or end grain, or like curley maple where the grain has no
specific direction. What cuts nice on end grain often leaves strings on with
grain cuts. Very sharp tools, honed with 3000 grit diamond will help alot.
