Hi Don,
I am doing the exact same thing. I bought a Shizuoka cnc bed mill with a fanuc 6MB (is yours a 6MB or 6MA?). My motherboard was missing a y axis translation IC (the 42 pin gold colored ICs in the middle of the motherboard). My motors are fanuc 0 and fanuc 5 dc brush with 2500 line encoders. In that reguard, I guess I am lucky. I bought a gecko G340 drive (already had two others) and am up and running on EMC. Still a lot of work to interface the tool changer, spindle drive and other stuff.
I kept my motherboard and drives, but I may sell them when I am sure that everything is going to be ok with EMC.
Repairs from fanuc are at least $1250 for them to glance at it...over $4 grand for a new motherboard (much more than I paid for the whole mill, including delivery)
Keep us posted. I am sure we can help you.

I have a gorton mill with a fanuc 6m control on it. I have used this
mill for the past few years in my home shop. While using it a few
weeks ago the control died as it has frequently in the past year. I
would like
to save the drives and the motors and install a new control. I know
that
I will have to change the resolver to encoders. I have learned that
from the many web sites I have viewed in the past few weeks. I have
been following this site and am not sure if I am in the right place.
This machine has a 10" x 50" table on it, and most of the post are for
table top machines. I have checked out camsoft and a few others and
not ready to spend that on this machine. Repairs on old boards are not
cheap either. Has any one else done this or have a sugestion on what
to do. Any help greatly appreciated.
