Re: Fanuc 6m help

My spindle drive was shot, so I don't have to worry about interfacing
to it :-). My mill uses a 180V armature 200volt field 5HP DC brush
motor for the spindle, so I bought a KBRG-255 5HP 4 quadrant
regenerative drive from KB. About $350. It has a +/-10V input
signal, and also manual pots for speed and torque control. Right now
I am just using EMC to turn the spindle on and off and reverse
direction. I need to interface to the +/-10V signal without buying a
servo to go card.

Your fanuc 5 motors are 90V 12 amp, with 2500 count encoders (I
think). The gecko g340 will run them at 80V, which should be plenty
of torque. With the high encoder count, you set the gain and damp
pots almost fully counterclockwise (minimum setting). I think there
is a market for used Fanuc parts, since the three translation chips
on the motherboard cost $330 each alone. I saw a 6MB motherboard
with a few other boards (BMU, Punch tape) go for over $1000.

Do you have three phase available? One nice thing about my
conversion is that everything runs off of single phase 220V now,
except for the spindle lube pump, which is a small 3 phase motor. I
bought a small VFD on ebay for it that runs on single phase (have not
gotten it yet). Since I didn't have single phase, it is nice not to
have to use the noisy, power consuming 7.5hp rotary phase converter I
built.
