I looked up a typical 400 oz in stepper motor and looked at the torque
curve.
It showed the following:
Stopped 360 oz in torque
300 steps per second 400 oz in
1000 steps per second 380 oz in
2000 steps per second 340 oz in
3000 steps per second 250 oz in
4000 steps per second 80 oz in
Assume that you would be using a stepper motor with a 2/1 ratio timing
belt and are in the half step mode and the motors are 200 steps per rev.
with a 10 TPI leadscrew.
That would be 200X2X2X10=8000 steps per inch so in the above figures at
4000 steps per second you might get 30 IPM but because of a myriad of
other factors you probably could only get around 22 IPM.
With a servo motor you should get much higher speeds of 60 IPM +

If I need min 400 in/oz Nema34 stepper motors. Would that mean I
also need 400 in/oz servo motors? Do they have the same torque rating
system? I've searched the archives and can't seem to locate any
reference to this. Thank you. Owen Lloyd
