I have no experience in a metric setup and I know that some things do
change. With steppermod.o I seemed to get a follow error if I did not
use a deadband that is just over 1/2 of a step increment.

Steppermod.o and freqmod.o are both output modules that EMC uses to
create parallel port output to drive steppers or step and direction
servos. Steppermod.o is the older of the 2. It requires less computer
resources, but the step pulses are not as well spaced as freqmod.o.
Generally if you are using stepper which have no pulse buffering (all
except Gecko G210 drives as far as I know) you will get the best
performance with freqmod.o. If you are using G210 drives or step and
direction servo drives (Gecko G320/340 drives) and you need very high
pulse rates you will generally be better off with steppermod.o.

Output from both steppermod.o and freqmod.o in the normal step and
direction mode is the same pin out. The only difference is that the
directions are reversed between them. So you do not have to change the
wiring, but you do have to change the sign in your INPUT_SCALE to
reverse the direction.

Phase stepping is for older type drives that do not use the more modern
step and direction signals. If I remember correctly the phase scheme in
EMC is set up for the older Bridgeport driver boards.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jobshophomeshop I consider this to be a
sister site to the CCED group, as many of the same members are there,
for OT subjects, that are not allowed on the CCED list.
