We didn't have the faster machines or DSP chips to do this back in the
dark ages ;) It can be done with slow machines but nowadays I'd use fast
machines too! I'd probably also be tempted to use EMC as a baseline for
software development. However integer math, precalculation, and other
programmers tricks are still very appropriate for embedded micros, so
don't throw that bathwater away yet.
