Re: BDI install disk for EMC -evidence that a braindead install already exists

I have been following this thread and biting my tongue. I can understand as
an entrepreneur the need to look for an opportunity, but I feel one needs to
be aware of the context they work in. I also am a programmer and a systems
engineer and bill out my time at ridiculously high rates that people feel
are worth paying. But, when I invested a few days of my time in the scripted
install it was in the context of helping my online friends implement a new
technology that shows great promise in giving us home machinist types access
to industrial strength tools.

Pretty much all that I know about CNC, electronics, Linux, and EMC was
freely given to me by others on and off this list free of charge and in the
spirit of helping each other. I feel this spirit of free exchange is one of
the cornerstones of this group. People like Dan Mauch, Matt Shaver, Jon
Elson, Dan Falck and many others have invested countless hours in learning
how to do all this stuff and are willing to freely share it to the benefit
of all.

I think what particularly twists my crank is the idea that someone want to
essentially take all the effort that has been invested and offered for free
and tie a bow around it and start charging everyone for the info they
collected. On that basis I will state that all of my scripts, documentation,
and past postings are to be considered copy righted works and are not
available for commercial usage. If any of my friends want to use it for
their personal use that is great and I will do all I can to help. If someone
wants to use any of my info in a commercial venture I am glad to talk about
a licensing agreement.

Guess that pretty clearly lets you all know where I stand on this issue. Off
my soapbox stand and back to hanging out with my friends online.
