For my CNC Controller I mounted the cap horizontally. The only
precaution is keep your filter cap away from heat - probably not a
concern in a CNC controller. I made a clamp out of aluminum - it
looks like the letter "C" except the bottom is flat to hold a single
mounting screw to the chassis. I formed the clamp by bending the
aliminium around a bar that was just smaller than the diameter of the
cap. Just the tension of the "C" clamp holds the cap firmly in
place. For good measure I wrapped a few turns of black electrical
tape around the cap as insurance against the metal clamp edges
cutting through the cap's insulation.
