another limitswitch quest...

hi all

i was thinking of swap my mechanical microswitches to optos, fork-
stylys, that reacts when a object (nock, actuator or whatever) goes
in the led/transistor gap. does anyone know how this works in a shop-
environment, with all dust and dirt that sooner or later gonna cover
both led and transistor with a fine layer.
