Best option for 4th axis

Happy New Year All,
Before diving in to making a 4th axis, can anyone advise on the pros
and cons of using a semi-universal dividing head as opposed to spacer
as the base machine? From previous posts, the bearings of a spacer
make it preferable to a rotary table for this application, does the
same apply to a Semi-universal?
One of the disadvantages for the semi-universal is that all that I
have seen have a ratio of 40:1, which might make gearing a bit
tricky. On the plus side being able to set angles between 0-90 may
be advantagous in some circumstances, they also appear to be a little
cheaper than regular spacers.
TIA for any comments.
