How do I determine type of motor?

I have just become interested in CNC and this group looks like the best
place to start. I have just gotten two Bridgeports with unmarked motors.
One came with an old NC controller, which I'm open to suggestions on what I
should replace it with and motors on X, Y and Quill (Z). The other just has
motors on the X & Y axis and nothing else. On unmarked motors, is there an
easy way to tell if they are servos or steppers. How about to determine
voltage specs etc.? Is there a way to determine it from the old controller
(No schematics of course!)? I'll probably be out of touch till Thurs. PM,
but PLEASE let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Jeff
