If you want to see the ultimate device for making a pendant take a
look at this :
http://www.charmedlabs.com/
The xport plugs into the cartridge slot of the Game Boy Advance,
gives you buffered IO, an FPGA with several canned program files
available (stepper motor control, PWM, GPIO, etc.), and a programming
environment for the GBA. I believe they recently ported eCos to it
which would get you basic POSIX support and therefore a relatively
straight forward EMC port.
