Macintosh OS 10.2

I have through a series of events aquired a Macintosh Dual Processor G4.
Having been in the Intel MSDOS/Windows world since I gave up on my Atari.
Since I have the Mac I started investigating and have found OS 10.x is BSD
Unix with a graphics interface on top. A shell command line window is
available with C, Bash, K and Bourne shells also available. I have a lot of
Unix experience so this would be a way of implementing EMC on a powerful
paltform. Finally to the question. Does anyone have any experience with the
system configuration I have described and if so what is their opinion?
