Yes, this can be done. I have not done it with EMC, but I have written
software for Linux to drive digital I/O cards on the ISA bus. While I
wrote my drivers from scratch (for 8255 PIA chips) I have seen drivers
available for other boards and buses. Search for COMEDI on the net.
Some of these should be able to be used with RTAI or RT linux.
