Scissors fragile?!? Unable to deal with torque and load?!?

Have you seen a bulldozer/ loader lately? Those scissor arms which do
the lifting seem anything but fragile...

Also the lift tables for material as used in the woodworking
industry; these hold a ton or two of sheet goods like MDF readily...

Having said that: Isn't it interesting how we think of certain things
related to certain mechanical means... (I admit I first thought of
the rather "flexible" scissor lift tables at HF--and folding baby
carriages--; before remembering that scissor members can be gussetted
cast iron, hardened pivots, etc.
