CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO spindle to motor connection

Does anyone have suggestions on how to connect a motor to mill
spindle so the motor doesn't run up and down with the spindle -
without having to cut internal splines? Most of the designs I've been
seeing show the motor traveling with the head - I want to mount the
motor separately to reduce the mass on the head.
