While I don't have a clue what this specific transformer is for in context,
I figured I'd address your question about the transformer's wiring. The
(either or both) primary and the secondary wiring of a 3 phase transformer
can be wound in either a "Y" configuration or a "Delta" configuration. If a
winding is in "Y" configuration, the center tap is generally a ground or
neutral (depending on context). In your case, because all three phases are
connected to both sides (with no ground or neutral connection to the
transformer), your transformer seems to be wound with both primary and
secondary as a "Delta" configuration. It is probably being used to either
step-ip or step-down the voltage (ie: if you are feeding it with 208 volts,
but your motor is 480 volts [or vica versa]). Since the application doesn't
need the center tap, the manufacturer has apparently elected to save a
little money by using a let expensive "Delta-Delta" transformer.
Since this is probably beyond the scope of this mail list, please contact me
offline if you need more info. By the way, almost any electrical
engineering book covering transformer theory will cover this in depth.

Jeff

I am converting my bridgeport r2e3 to run the control circuit on single
phase, but maintaining the 3 phase motor running on a statis converter.
Does anyone know what the purpose of the large transformer at the top right
side of the power enclosure is for. All of the other transformers have been
easily converted to single phase, but this transformer just has 3 phase
supplies in and 3 phase supplies out. There are no neutrals. Forgive my
poor understanding of transformers, but I thought you needed a live and
neutral into a transformer to generate a field etc...
...help me CAD_CAM_DRO your my only hope !!!!
