cable chain ?

on 2003-02-06 07:47:03 UTC
I have looked at the plastic stuff and am amazed that it costs so
much per foot.

I recently had some parts made in stamped steel.

would a stainless cable chain be better than plastic?

I was thinking of having a run of stampings then assembling them for
my projects. seeems easy to do and having a box laying around would
be great for the next projects.

The questions are how big of an opening ? seems a one inch square
would hold all my wires. 1/2 x 1/5" would lay flatter and offer
better clearnace.

would I be better off using a pair, side by side, one for the 220 for
the motor and the rest for the steppers/servo's/switches ?

It seems that a simple spacer with a couple screws and that would be
the linkage and pins.

I figure that if they cost $1.00 per part, 2" long, then it is only
$6.00 per foot. for my 10 ft unit would only need 6 feet, but then
it would be more home brew than store bought.

any comments ?

If I did this would there be any interest in getting some ? the more
I can get made, the cheaper the parts would be.
