you are trying to move them too fast. When the motor cannot jump
quickly enough in time ot the next position, it'll lag behind and
jitter in the same position. Your acceleration rate or max speed is
too high. It sounds like you're using TurboCNC. If I recall correctly
it'll go to whatever speed is specified in the Gcode file regardless
of what you set the max jog rate to.
You can get way better performance with higher voltage. Changing from
12V to 28V for me increased my speed by about 5-10 times! At 12V I
could never get more than 6000Khz reliably, but at 28V I've been
getting up to 30,000 steps/second (in 1/8 step mode) when the motors
run free.
Give your motors the max amps they can take - it all relates to
holding torque and running speed.
