Dave,
I would assume that you have done all the tests.
Is the red light on, on the Gecko?
If power is on can you still turn the shaft without any resistance?
Do you have 5 volts from pin 10 to the PC ground?
The winding resistance on each pair should be about .4 ohms.
The 5 volt supply is the most likely.
