Using an 8 wire as half coil is easy. You have 4 half coils. In series
you connect the end of one half coil to the beginning of the next to
form 2 full coils. To use them as half coil just connect the end of the
first half coil back to the drive instead of to the beginning of the
next half coil like you would in series. Do the same on the other phase.
That is it.

The disadvantage of half coil is that you loose a few percent on your
torque and RPM compared to full coil parallel. The advantage is it is
easier to wire and you run a much lower amperage. Lower amperage = less
heat on the drives and less power supply required. I have found it to be
a great trade off. It is particularly good when using drives like the
Xylotex that have a low amperage limit. You can drive the motor at full
power that in parallel mode would require a larger drive.
