I can't really help directly with your enquiry, but I think that a
2000 line encoder is massive overkill and would probably cause a
problem with software. I have a small Denford CNC lathe and it is
fitted with a 50 slot encoder as original, but I don't have screw
cutting setup yet.
The only commonly available software that has a threading capability
to my knowledge is TurboCNC and at the moment uses 1 impulse per rev.
When I heard this I assumed it would be result in poor quality
threads, but from what I've read it seems to work just fine,
due to the momentum of the rotating parts, I think.
Take a look at www.dakeng.com if you haven't already, to find out
about TurboCNC.
