Dave,

If you open one up and there's a bunch of batteries in there, they're
the ones. Normally the batteries die after a couple of years and
rather than replace them, they get thrown out and buy new. Also
while your in there look at the circuit board and you may also find a
NTC thermistor, I got a 30 Amp one from the big supply.
