Dave,

Do you have Autocad or something that can read
.dwg or .dxf?

If so I have a design for a preloaded end bearing
That I use. It is basically a clone of the units sold
by Thomson and others.

It uses DB configured angular contact bearing pairs
that can be mounted adjacent for simple support
or with inner and outer spacers for fixed support.

These can be made for 30 or 40 dollars (less with
surplus bearings) but machining to +/- 0.0001" or
so is required.
