Crimping Connectors for Pac Sci PowerMax Motors?

I've never had much luck attaching wires to these connectors (never
had the expensive tool). I always pushed the wire on best as I
could, then soldered it on, making a gooy mess of the connector. How
do you guys attach wires to these connectors? Here is a drawing:
