Yes, you would only have one home switch per axis. Many commercial
machines will have three switches per axis. Two over travel limits,
one at each end of travel. And one home switch somewhere in between
the limit switches.
I'm not sure the over travel switches should work like an e-stop.
A simple over travel indication doesn't need that, does it? If an
over travel indication shut the whole machine down, how will you
move the axis off the over travel position? Like when you
accidently jog to over travel position, if that became an e-stop
condition, how would you get the axis back in "safe" territory since
the axis drive would be disabled?
