Low cost torque amplifier

I'm looking for a low cost brush type PWM torque amplifier for my EMC
project lathe. The amp needs to run 8A continuous with ~16A peak. The catch
is I have to run a 170 volt DC bus for this particular motor. Amp can be
torque(current)mode only. I don't need a velocity integrator as I don't
plan on running a tach. Best price I've found so far is about 300 clams.
Have any of you seen anything cheaper?
