There is frequently no difference in the motor. When there is a motor
difference it is just in the number of wires coming out of the motor. A
4 wire stepper motor can only be used as a bipolar. A 6 and 8 wire motor
can be used as either. The drives are completely different in the way
they energize the motor coils. A bipolar will reverse the current flow
in a coil. A unipolar always flows current the same direction in a coil.
