Jim, Anders,

I've had soem luck with Hyperterm on XP this week, connecting to a Cisco
router and switch and not a mill but the protocol is the same.
Here is how it went for me on a fresh XP install.

Start->Programs->Accessories->Communications->Hyperterminal

Click Yes or No at the prompt about it being the default telnet program,
your choice.
Enter your area code and click "Ok".

You should be prompted with a dialog box asking you to name a new session.
Type a name and click "Ok".Choose your com port from the list at the bottom and click "Ok".
Choose the serial connection details you need to connect to your equipment
and click "Ok".
If you've got the correct cable to the equipment, you should be connected
at this point. You can toggle connection state with the buttons at the
top of the hyperterm window.
