Hi Marcus -
Thanks. It's a pretty clean machine, from '98, and I bought it from a
rigger that was selling it for the finance company that repossessed it.
Would you believe I got it for $5.5k??!! At that price, I don't mind if the
spindle doesn't spin.
I checked it out pretty closely at the rigger's. I powered it up, jogged
around, then used the tool changer ultility in the s/w to change tools.
There were problems at this point. The toolchange design is the same basic
design as your Defiance - a flanged 3/4" shaft that is held in the spindle
by an R8 collet with disk springs. When the tool changer arm raised the
tool up into the collet, sometimes the collet would close before it made it
all the way. I think the shop air may not have been at a high enough
pressure (90 psi). I also tried the manual spindle control in the s/w, and
it didn't give any error messages when I tried to run the spindle, even
though nothing actually happened. I seem to recall that at some point when
I tried to run some g-code, an error message popped up saying the tool was
not in position, even though it was properly seated. Maybe the sensor's
bad?
I don't have the machine home yet, in fact, when it gets here on Monday it's
going right into the moving van for our move to California. It'll be a
couple weeks before I get a better look at it. I'll have a lot more details
then.
Carlos

Hi Carlos:
Congratulations!!!
You are now the proud new owner of a really cool tool (and a bankloan I
presume, but hey...gotta live dangerously, right?)
Describe to us again which bits don't work yet.
I recall a comment about the spindle not turning.
Have you checked out the machine yet?
Are you not getting juice to the motor or are you getting an error message?
More details are better than less.
Cheers
Marcus

OK - I got no response on my last post regarding this machine
(with the bad spindle drive), but I couldn't pass up the deal and
went ahead and bought it. So now, I'm just wondering if there's
anyone out there that has this machine, or knows anything about
it, that would mind sharing their experiences. Anyone? Please
contact me offlist, in case this is off topic.
Regards,
Carlos
