SLO-SYN stepper

I am in the process of trying to build a CNC lathe, using a 10"
Rockwell. I have 2 SLO-SYN type HS400-1001 steppers that I would like
to be able to use on this project. They are 400 in.oz. from an old
NC mill. There are 8 coils tied in pairs with 5 leads, for 4 for coil
pairs but with the common all being tied together. So far I do not
find any drivers for 5 leads. Has anyone open one of these up, broken
up the common connection and brought leads out for each pair? If so
how did they pair up? Thanks
