Bill,
Somebody was pulling your leg, when they told you it was dishwashing
liquid. The milky looking coolant that you used was actually soluble cutting
oil, which I used as early as the late 1940's. In its raw state, the oil
looks like a very dark colored, viscous liquid. When you mix it with water,
and I don't remember the ratio, it immediately turns milky.
My personal preference for cooling, is a mist system. It eliminates the
need for a pump & tank, return line, keeping the gravity drain clear of
chips, and having to clean the tank periodically, when the coolant goes
"sour". The mist system requires an air supply, and I use a 1 gallon jug for
coolant. That's all!!
