Gabe,
I took a look at the part. The "STEP" input is the "CLOCK" in the
timing diagram.
This chip is an R/L drive; it is not a switching type drive so there
is no oscillator or current set. The phase current will be limited by
the large series resistors.
At 35V and 1.5A these would be 33 Ohms and 50 Watts each.
