That's all too weird, but let me suggest...
Since you have EMC so conviently located on the same PC, boot into that
and run the same file. If it still screws up suspect the PC hardware,
although I cant think of a failure mode off hand that would just slow it
down and not scrap the part. If I was a bettin man I would bet it won't
screw up under EMC.
