Methinks this is getting to be off topic, so I'll make it brief.
BDI-TNG comes with XFree86-4.1.0 and also XFree86-3.3.6, the preferred choice
being 4.1.0.
All BDI-2.xx releases use XFree86-3.3.5, and since around 2.10, also included
pre-compiled binaries for XFree86-4.1.0. The latter would have to be
installed from the tarball contained in the Updates directory on the CD, and
then configured manually. For a full list of compatable cards, the best
reference is :

http://www.xfree86.org/3.3.6/ - Most of the information here is applicable to
3.3.5.
