Gerry,

I think you mean single coil ? that would be the lowest resistance,
and that is what the nameplate means.

using the ends and tieing centers together would be series and would
use half nameplate amps, and be double the resistance.

finding and connecting 2 coils together to act as one coil (can only
be done on an 8 wire stepper, not a 6 wire) is parallel. From
Marriss's white paper, wiring for parallel and using nameplate amps
will only gain 3%.
