Regarding "Intro to Electronics" stuff, I'd recommend buying an electronics kit. I picked a nice one up at RadioShack for about $60. It came with an intro to electronics booklet, instructions for projects, quite a few electronic components and a built-in breadboard.

If you'll be building your own drivers, this will help in a few ways. First, you'll pick up valuable electronics experience just by making their projects. Second, when you're comfortable with what the components do relative to each other, you can start playing with "what if" experiments. Lastly, you can use the components to help you prototype stepper designs.

Just a thought,
Kevin Kinney
