For a Laser Pointer... My Machine Tool Center is approximately 20"
from the center of the round post. Figuring a 20 foot throw for the
laser, that would give approx 0.012" movement of the Laser Spot for
0.001" movement of the Tool Center.
About a year ago, somewhere on the web, I've seen and can't relocate
a web page showing how someone fixed his head alignment problem.
He installed a heavy Guide Rod about 6-8" out to the side and
parallel to the round column. Bolted at the top and bottom with a
Guide Arm attached to the moveable head.
Looked like it would work quite well.
If I remember correctly I thought that he should have incorporated
some sort of method to fine adjust the alignment of the rod.
I would also liked some method to disengage the Guide Arm, for when
you really wanted to swivel the head.
I would think, if done correctly and accurately, this could be the
basis of a motor controlled head.
If anyone locates that web page, send me the address, I'd like to see
it again.
