I was just looking at the joints on Till's Hexapod (see files section
under hexapod ideas) I had noticed he had combined the struts before
but it hadn't clicked that he has used only one rail for each pair of
struts. This cuts the univeral joint count to 9 and the cost and
complexity as well.
So the component list for a Homebrew off the shelf Hexapod is:
3 linear rails
6 carrages
9 univeral joints or similar
3 straight pivots
6 stepper motors/servos
A frame of some sort.
The same idea can also be applied to a hexaglide with the slides in
the ceiling.
I have a Thomson linear rail with tow carriages and I am sure I can
get some more at surplus prices, that and the surplus extruded Ali
section is most of the machine.
Cheers,
Graham
